بولوت در زبان آذری به معنای «ابر» است و نام شخصیت اصلی داستان نیز همین است. در بخشی از داستان، اتوبوس در مه گیر می‌کند و مسافران آن سرگردان می‌شوند. رمان ماجرای ۲۰ دقیقه تا نیم ساعت از همین روز را روایت می‌کند که مسافران در مه گیر کرده‌اند، اما با برگشت‌هایی به گذشته سفر می‌کند.
این کتاب برگزیده جایزه کتاب سال دفاع مقدس شده و نویسنده آن سابقه ایثارگری و نویسندگی و روزنامه‌نگاری دارد و این تجربه‌ها به او کمک کرده تا بتواند به‌شکل عمیق و تأثیرگذاری به موضوع جنگ بپردازد.
یکی از ویژگی‌های این رمان «گفت‌وگومحور» بودن است؛ به این صورت که در بیشتر روایت‌های کتاب در قالب گفت‌وگو تعریف می‌شود. نویسنده داستان را با زبان ترکی آذری آغاز کرده تا از همان ابتدا مخاطب بداند که قهرمان کتاب شخصیتی از خطّه‌ی آذربایجان است.
این رمان در سه فصل «آغازین»، «میانی» و «آخر» به نگارش درآمده که هر فصل پرده‌ای متفاوت از زندگی بولوت را بیان می‌کند.
نویسنده در مقدمه کتاب درباره عشق و ایثار نوشته است:
«عشق، متناقض‌ترین چالش زندگی است؛ یک فراخودگرایی جنو ن آمیز. عشق، ظاهر و اولش ایثار است و باطن و آخرش انحصار. با ایثار سر می گیرد و به انحصار می انجامد. نوعی انحصار که در واقع در عاشق به وجود می آید. از آن هنگام که عاشق معشوق را می بلعد، انحصارطلبی او نیز نسبت به معشوقه اش، سر می گیرد... بلی؛ عشق نخست دیگرخواهی و سپس خودخواهی ایجاد می کند.»
